In March 1996 GSNT commenced the recording of Northern Territory Pioneers, the start of this project was very slow. We called for nominations to the Register but some of the forms we received were unsubstantiated hearsay of Northern Territory residency. We then had to change tack and in so doing set ourselves an even bigger task. The Society has a dedicated group of members who verify each application, during this process local research may add further information. As you can imagine this is very time consuming, but the results can be astonishing. One submitted application form might lead to several others in the family unit and so the work quickly multiplies. Some Pioneers who are recorded in our Register are still residents of the Territory, we do not want to invade their privacy and it is partly for this reason and the actual work involved in answering queries via email that we have had to withdraw publishing our Pioneer Surname Register as part of our Web page. This does not mean that you cannot write to us and enquire about a Pioneer, but you should be aware that all research attracts a fee of $30.00 per hour, plus GST. Each request for information will be assessed and we will advise enquirers what materials we have and estimated costs of the research. Where possible we will provide you with references that you may like to research further. Genealogical
